Description
Torre de los Alumbres (Alum Stone Tower) is an old defense fortress erected in 1509 near the Alum stone (alumbre) mine of Rodalquilar, preserving it from the Berberists' raids on the southern coast of Spain. It used to be another tower standing at its side, but it disappeared in the XVIII Century. The access to the remaining tower used to be through a drawbridge over the moat which surrounded the compound. Its soundness has been tested, through the years, by earthquakes and raids, and although it was abandoned in 1555 it is still standing to-day.
