Description

There are many species of Plumeria, a plant that belongs to the dogbane family and is characterized by large, funnel-shaped flowers and milky sap; The majority of its species consists of deciduous shrubs or small trees. The species are variously indigenous to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, and as far south as Brazil, but they are grown as cosmopolitan ornamentals in warm regions. Another common name for Plumeria is Frangipani, which comes from the Marquis Frangipani, a noble credited with the invention of a perfume made from these flowers that became very famous in the sixteenth century.
