Description
The hawfinch is mainly resident in Europe, but many Asian birds migrate further south in the winter. It is the UK's largest finch and its head is orange-brown with a black eyestripe and bib, and a characteristic massive, powerful bill, which is black in summer but paler in winter. This unobtrusive bird is usually shy and difficult to see, and its song is quiet and mumbled.
