The European robin, known simply as the robin or robin redbreast in the British Isles, is a chat-thrush (subfamily Saxicolinae) that breeds throughout Europe, western Asia, and parts of North Africa. It is migratory in northern Europe but only partially so or sedentary farther south. The robin produces a fluting, warbling song during the breeding season. Both the male and female sing during the winter, when they hold separate territories, the song then sounding more plaintive than the summer version.
